ça m'est venu la veille de Noel en pensant au premier jour de l'an...naître, mourir, renaître.
A partir de la nuit de Noel, jusqu'à la fin de l'année, dans les sept derniers jours,
il y a célébration d'une naissance, une mort et une renaissance ou plutôt la continuation d'un état sous
une autre forme, un autre numéro. 2007. 2008. Osiris. Christ. Grain d'orge. Bière. John Barleycorn.
Quand j'ai su que Cold Spring et Woven Wheat Whispers publiaient, en collaboration, une double
compilation (voire triple, avec le supplément sur le site woven wheat whispers) intitulée
"John Barleycorn Reborn" où se trouve engagée la fine fleur du folk moderne et sombre, je me suis aussi souvenu
avoir lu une définition de la "folk music" qui disait : "musique des gens ordinaires qui se transmet par
la mémorisation ou la répétition, orale plutôt qu'écrite et qui trouve ses racines profondes dans sa
propre culture", définition qui ouvre sa porte à la trilogie dramatique, "naître, mourir (oubli), renaître..."
Mais, surtout, j'ai eu envie de relire Jack London. Le cabaret de la dernière chance. John Barleycorn, si
vous préférez.

This came to me the day before Christmas when I thought of the first day of the year... born, die, reborn.
Starting from the night before Christmas, till the end of the year, in last seven days, there is
celebration of a birth, death and rebirth, or rather the continuation of a state in another form,
another number. 2007. 2008. Osiris. Christ. Barley corn. Beer. John Barleycorn.
When I learned that Cold Spring and Woven Wheat Whispers published in collaboration, a double
compilation (or even triple, with the supplement on the woven wheat whispers' site) "John Barleycorn
Reborn" committed by the best performers in dark modern folk, I also remembered having read a definition of
"folk music" which said, "music of the common people that has been passed on by memorization or repetition
rather than by writing, and has deep roots in its own culture", a definition which opens its door to the
drama trilogy,"born, dying (oblivion), reborn ..."
But, especially, this made me want to read Jack London again. Alcoholic memoirs. John Barleycorn if you prefer.
