1. do you remember your first musical emotion ?
Fascination. Secular music was not permitted when I was a child. This only made me obsessed with hearing it though.
2. how did you first get involved in music ?
My father sang and my mother played piano in a small church. There was about 900 people that lived in the village, so attendance usually topped at about 20. I tried to teach myself piano but got bored with the songs. So much later I tried to write my own and switched to guitar so it would be easier to start a band. Because when you're that young, everyone wants to be the singer.
3. could you tell us a bit about your influences and musical tastes?
It's cliched to say the Beatles, but I will anyway. I also have been surrounded by some of the best New Orleans music after moving here twelve years ago. For a brief time before Katrina I studied guitar under Carl LeBlanc of Sun Ra. I have always had the intention to go back to him to learn more but it hasn't happened yet.
4. do you have a 'bedside record', sort of the one you're never tired to listen again and again ?
I'm not sure I do. I have a short attention span, so sometimes I have to skip a song after the bridge if it becomes too predictable. I try to reflect that uncertainty in my own music as often as possible.

1. te souviens-tu de ta première émotion musicale ?
La fascination. Quand j'étais enfant, la musique profane ne m'était pas permise. Ce qui n'a fait que renforcer mon désir d'en entendre.
2. comment es-tu venu à la musique ?
Mon père chantait et ma mère jouait du piano dans une petite église. C'était dans un village d'environ 900 habitants, la fréquentation culminait aux alentours de 20 personnes. J'ai essayé d'apprendre seul le piano mais les chansons m'ont vite ennuyé. Bien plus tard, j'ai décidé d'écrire mes propres chansons. J'ai aussi troqué le piano contre une guitare, pensant que ce serait plus facile pour monter un groupe. Parce qu'à cet âge, si jeune, tout le monde veut être le chanteur
3.peux tu nous en dire un peu sur tes influences et tes goûts en matière de musique ?
ça sonne un peu cliché de dire les Beatles mais c'est ce que je dirai. J'ai aussi baigné dans quelques unes des meilleures musiques de la Nouvelle Orléans quand j'ai emménagé ici il y a douze ans. Pendant une brève période, avant Katrina, j'ai aussi étudié avec Carl LeBlanc (qui a joué avec Sun Ra). J'ai toujours eu l'intention de retourner étudier avec lui pour en apprendre davantage mais ça ne s'est pas encore fait.
4. as tu un 'disque de chevet', genre que tu écoutes encore et encore ?
Je ne crois pas. Ma capacité d'attention est plutôt réduite, d'où, quelquefois, une tendance à zapper une chanson, après le pont, si ça devient trop prévisible. J'essaie de traduire cette incertitude aussi souvent que possible dans mes propres compositions
